Question:
Did/does anyone else suffer from a low-grade fever right after sugery?
I keep spiking a temp of 100-102 about every other day. Tylenol brings it down to right around 99-100. I feel icky and listless when this happens. Surgeon said not to be worried unless it was consistently at 101.5. What gives? — Mary Ann B. (posted on December 10, 2002)

Mary Ann, I had a 101-102 fever everyday in the hospital and was kept an
extra day (6 total) b/c of it...once i went home, the fever subsided in 2-3
days.

Hi Maryann,
Last night I noticed my temp was 100.5, and I am 20 days postop. It's
normal and part of the healing process. Unless it's above lowgrade, or you
really feel horrible (pain, chills, etc.) I wouldn't worry about it. Our
bodies have been through alot of stress having surgery and recuperating,
it's all normal.

I also had a temp around 101-102 for a few days while in the hospital. It
broke before I went home though (4 days) and the doctors didn't think much
of it. However, my discharge instructions from the hospital said to call
my doctor if I have a fever over 101.5 degrees. If it's more than that or
goes on for more than a day or two, I'd call the doctor.
