Question:
Any recommendations on this surgeon or anyother- Tampa area.

I am looking into surgeonsin the Tampa area. I have heard good and not so good- so any feedback? I have actually had friends of nurses at TGH say that this Dr has a very good reputation as a surgeon. I have heard that it is a long process with this Dr- but he works through USF (teaching school) and hasn't just jumped on the WLS bandwagon looking for a profitable surgery. However, he has worked in abdominal surgery for quite some time. On the other hand, I am concerned about his mortality rate, but understand that he had a few deaths unrelated to the WLS. What do you think? I want to do the right thing! Does anyone know the web sites to check on Drs stats? Thanks and good luck to everyone! :)    — Tracy J. (posted on December 4, 2002)

I checked out Dr in Tampa and decided to go to New Port Richey to have Dr Rodolfo Dy do my surgery. He has not performed a whole lot of surgeries but he studied in Cal. with the Dr that performed Carnie Wilsons surgery and they have all of the latest equipment for Lap surgery and all of his surgeries are transected. My surgery went extremely smooth. I'm down 42lbs in 7 weeks. His number is 727-845-4886

I've heard very good things about Dr. Murr and yes there is a very long wait. I have a heart condition and needed wls almost ASAP. I chose Dr. Butler. He is an excellent Dr. better then what the media says. My opinion about mortality rate is,"The healthier you are going into the surgery the better out come you will have." Dr. Butler had a few problems only because he does surgery on high risk patients that other doctors won't touch. That can be good and bad. He has also been doing this surgery for over 20 years which makes me feel more confidant. Dr. Butler won't have you waiting for over a year to have this surgery done. I seen Dr. Butler for the first time in February 2002, I could of had my surgery in April but chickened out and had it done on June 26, 2002. That is how fast he can do it. It also depends on how fast your insurance company is willing to put things through. Sometimes that delays things. Good luck on your decision and best wishes to you!

I am in Orlando and saw Dr. Tenewitz in Melbourne, there was hardly a wait and he has a great program. The hospital was good and the staff at the hospital is prepared for WLS patients with large gowns, chairs, etc...

I can highly recommend Dr. Murr. He did my surgery on 7/23, and I know several people personally who had their's done by him prior to me. I talked to them about their experiences, and everyone says what an excellent reputation he has. He does have a long waiting time to get to see him, but he is worth it. When I hear some of the horror stories about other people's experiences with their doctors, I feel very fortunate to have been recommended to Dr. Murr. You won't be sorry!
