Question:
Wondering if I will qualify?
I am wondering what you all think about this. I have not had my consult yet, and I am waiting patiently for my appointmnet. I am 5'6" and weigh about 230#. My BMI is 37 and I may have sleep apnea,do have knee and back problems, signifcate diet history, and family history. My insurance requires a person to be 100# over with co-morbs. I am over my weigh according to the insurance weight charts. I was just wondering what you all think. I am just up tight about waiting on my appointment and scared to death that the surgeon will say no way!! Sick of waiting and worrying. Sorry this is so long. — Jan S. (posted on November 20, 2002)

I say go for it. I am 5'7" and my starting weight was 230. I am 1
year post op and now weigh 127. If I would have listened to everyone when
they told me that I would never qualify I would still be fat and unhappy
today. Sleep apnea helped a great deal in getting me approved. I just
found out yesterday that I have been approved for a tummy tuck!!! Fight
for what you want!! I did and it worked!! email me if you have any
questions. :)

I actually was about where you are...a little heavier with no co-morbs. My
therapist is the one who recommended the surgery to me and he put me on a
high-fat, high-calorie (pretty much eat everything and anything) during
the month or two before surgery to make sure my weight was high enough.
Crazy? I'm sure. But it wasn't like I was going any higher than I had
weighed at various times in my life. I figured it was worth it all. And I
still feel that way. I'm only 6 weeks out now..and I'm looking forward to
making this change in my life something that lasts forever.

I know what you mean. I am 5'3-1/2 and my weight is 240. (BMI = 42) NO
COMORBIDS. When I walked in and my surgeon said "You are
skinny". I thought Ohmigosh I will be denied! I was denied. I
fought with two appeals and my insurance finally approved. My surgery is
scheduled for 2/19/03 and although I am getting kind of cold feet, I can't
weight to begin a life of NO MORE FAILED DIETS! Keep trying, if you get
denied. Good Luck!

i would say it depends on your insurance, my insurance request 5 years
oftrying to diet had to give them names and dates like weight watchers
