Question:
Is this possible

I am 14 mos post op and have not lost any weight in 4 mos. I started at 310 and now I'm 195. I would like to lose more, much more.... Is it possible to be on a plateau for 4 mos or is it me?I don't eat much.. Mornings I have coffee and small bowl of oatmeal, lunch maybe ham and cheese on ritz crackers (can only eat three of these)... Dinner I have one leg and thigh baked chicken, sometime bbq in oven, can't eat anything else....snack a bag of popcorn. I know my stomach is still small because I still can't eat more than a cup of food at a time. I try to exercise but since it's getting cold it's hard for me to take the baby out for my daily walks so I try to exersise at home. Can someone help me with a diet so I could lose more weight..... Does anyone know the Atkin diet plan.... Can this help... Thanks guys.    — Rebe W. (posted on November 8, 2002)

Yes, it is possible to plateau for 4 months, I just did it! I'm 15 months post-op. For 4 months my weight flucated up and down the same 6 pounds until I thought I'd lose my mind. I did all the suggestions on this site to no avail- increased protein, decreased carbs, etc. It wasn't until my surgeon suggested adding additional weights when I walk that the plateau broke. I get 100+ grams of protein a day (mostly from food), 100 oz of water a day, take all my supplements, walk a mile each day, do weight training and stretches. I started adding 5# weights to each ankle with 3# weights on each wrist when I walk. After a month of doing that my plateau suddenly broke. I'm losing again, very slowly, but at least I'm losing!

Perhaps you are not eating enough calories. Try increasing the amount of protien and not adding any or very little carbs of fat. Your metabolisium may be very slow and you need to increase it some how, like excersise. Maybe take the baby and walk around a mall. Good Lux

WWW.ATKINSDIET.COM SOUNDS TO ME AS IF YOU'RE NOT GETTING IN NEARLY ENOUGH PROTEIN. UP YOUR PROTEIN, LOWER YOUR CARBS AND UP YOUR WATER INTAKE. THEN AGAIN, YOU'VE LOST A LOT OF WEIGHT SO YOUR BODY COULD STILL BE ADJUSTING.

Atkins is not always the best way to go. It allows for no carbs which can send your body into ketosis, which is good for weight loss but not good long term. My Dr recommends The Zone, which is similar to Atkins but allows for some carbs for balance.
