Question:
what would u do?
hi..i had a dilemma and just wanted to get some opinions on what other ppl think is best to do..theres one DR i can use who will be able to do the surgery in about a month but he only does open RNY and he doesnt transect..he also doesnt require any pre weight loss or require quitting smoking..the other DR's waitin list is about 3-4 months.he will do lap RNY not sure if he transects..he does require weight loss and no smoking before surgery..i dont mind an open RNY the scar doesnt bother me..but i have heard that its silly to even get the surgery without transection now..opinions? — christine S. Been there, done that...get the transection. It's just one less thing to
worry about. :))

Those who have had the surgery and did not get transected sometimes had to
have revisions to transected later on. It just seems easier to get the
transected now.

I think if it were me I would chose the DR. that is a little more picky on
how his patients are going to heal afterward. Someone told me if you
smoke after surgery that you have a 60% chance of getting ulcers that bleed
in your new pouch. Now, I don't know about you but that sounds very scary
to me and since my surgery I have been very protective of that little pouch
of mine. Anyway.....I would choose the more qualified and the Dr. that is
more picky about his patients. It only means that he is looking out for
you and wants the best for you.

If I were you, I would go with the doctor who takes more pre-cautions.
Also, I would find a doctor that DOEStransect because you'll only be saving
yourself from possibly going into surgery again for SLD. Just my 2 cents.
