A few weeks ago you would have thought that was nothing. You are doing fine. Read my profile and it will show you everything I ate at your stage and what I eat now. I am five months post op down 97.5 pounds. I have gone from a 24 to a 8. And I ate more than that at your stage. Don't worry, this is successful.

Rose, my SOUL SISTER!!!! I too am 3 weeks and 2 days post-op and today I felt as though I ate enough for me and everyone else here at obesity.help. I had an oatmeal packet, 2 s/f/f/f yogurts, 2 string cheese pieces, a banana about FOUR pieces of halloween candy (of course as I was eating these, I felt like I needed to be burned at the stake for having done so) and then got home and had a handful of nuts. I guess that --looking at the whole picture, I only ate around 1,000 calories, but that seems like soooooooooooo much to me. Perhaps it seems like a lot because in comparison to how I "normally" eat now, it IS..but Linda's right in that compared to how I used to eat, it's not a lot. Bottom line is I think you're fine. I hope you are--because if you are, then hopefully I am too!! Don't be so hard on yourself (and I'll try and remember this advice as well.........). All the best to you. (and tell your husband to get those almond joys OUT of the freezer!! :-0 )

Maybe you should ask "how much did I used to eat?"

Not to be mean or anything, I just can't believe that you are already trying candy, bacon, and pizza so early out from your surgery! I honestly don't believe in depriving ourselves completely once we become postop...but you sure are brave in your food choices! I am 3 months out and just recently had a few bites of bacon...but still haven't dared to touch candy. Granted, I haven't ALWAYS made the best choices, but overall I try to eat a really good and balanced diet. I know we are all different though. I don't think you are eating too much, I just think you are eating a few of the wrong things right now. Just be really careful and try not to eat sugar too often, otherwise you could fall into the same trap that got you heavy in the first place. Good Luck to you! (open RNY 7/23/02 -73 lbs)

Rose- I don't think you ate too much in volume, but you did make some daring choses. Remember, wls is a tool. You have to work it yourself. The better you work it these first six months the better your weight lose will be. You are doing some eating out of head hunger, learn the differences and it will help you. When you get a craving for sugar ask yourself are you really hungry, or is this just your head trying to get you to eat sugar. I also would consider asking your husband to give you some adjustment time and keep the candy out of the house for a couple of months. Stop feeling like a failure and instead try to feel like a learner. The best way you learn is when we make mistakes. Remember try to learn how to ride a bike; how many times did you fall before you got it? Hang in there. Cheryl Lap RNY 5mos -88lbs

Rose, I am a believer in eating often, especially early on when the amounts you take in are so small. Try eating healthier protein first items and eat a little something every 3 hours. It keeps hunger away and keeps the body fueled and burning calories. Skipping lunch is not good. I could not have aten pizza or bacon at 3 weeks out, but we are all different in what we can tolerate at what stage in this journey. As for pouch stretching, I have heard it is very difficult, but can be done if you overeat all the time and often. Yes, some have gained back their weight but imagine what they must have done to gain it all back-they must eat round the clock. Remember this is a tool-in the first 6 months or so, no work required on your part-but good eating habits developed early will help you down the road. Your pouch will stretch some over time-it is supposed to.
