Question:
I hve terrible constant heartburn and indigestion. What could this be from post-op?
RNY 5/17/01. I am constantly in pain and can't eat anything that doesn't cause this burning and burping. It is constant and even wakes me at night. It has been ongoing for months now. I just had a baby and was hoping it would go away after delivery but it hasn't. I am getting depressed from being so uncomfortable all of the time and have tried all of the prescription antacids which only make me vomit. Please help. My doctor wants to do an endoscopy but because I am nursing I can't get put to sleep and I am scared and have heard that it is an awful procedure. HELP! — Julie S. (posted on October 16, 2002)

I can't promise you that you will like it, but I had the endoscopy and it
was fine. I gagged a little when they put the tube down but they give you
some spray that will numb the throat. Having a baby is muuucchhh worse.
Anyway, think of it this way, you will find out what the problems are and
then you can fix them. Hang in there, I will be thinking of you.

Can you "not nurse" for a few days (whatever they say) til the
Versed clears your system? The procedure only takes about 20 minutes. A
staple line disruption really fried my pouch very quickly.

Open RNY 6/12/01--I am also experiencing burning, burping, nausea. gas
and pain. It started about 6-8 weeks ago. I saw my surgeon who is going to
an endoscopy next Wed. I had one prior to the surgery. My lab work also
showed that I might have an ulcer. I do have a hernia that I'm hoping to
have fixed in DEC (along with a TT) I started taking PEPCID AC which was
helping and then remembered that Raglan was good for stomach problems. The
surgeon had prescribed both after the surgery. The Raglan seems to be
helping. I also asked for something for the pain but was to take Tylenol
for the pain till after the endoscopy.
