Question:
Anybody dealt with BCBS of Texas RISK POOL?
BCBS of Texas has a written exclusion policy for the surgery. I'm not sure about the risk pool situation. Is that under BCBS or is that a totally seperate company? Does anybody have a sample appeal letter that I could see so I can write one for myself? — Courtney G. (posted on October 13, 2002)

I have BCBS of TX Choice Plus PPO. They gave me absolutely no problems
approving me for this procedure. I was told the exclusion was for obesity
not morbid obesity. I would say call up and ask about it. Make sure you
are talking to someone who knows what theya re talking about though. Good
Luck!

I have BCBS of Texas PPO and didn't have any problem getting approved,
except that the paperwork kept getting lost in their office. Once I got a
name and had the information faxed directly to that person, my approval
letter came less than a week later. My BMI was 44, and I had a couple of
co-morbidities. No extra information was requested.
