Question:
How long before the swelliing inside is gone?
I am 3 weeks post op Lap RNY. I still have some trouble getting in fluids and can not consume more than approx. 1 tsp. of pureed food. I never vomit. I do get very bad indigestion if I eat any more than this and am in pain for close to 24 hours. On average, how long does this internal swelling last? Thank you all for your input. — Roberta S. Roberta, I am two weeks post-op today from lap RNY and I don't have these
problems. I would contact your surgeon about this. There could be a
possiblity that the area between you esophogus and pouch is too narrow. I
may be completely wrong, but better safe than sorry. Maybe I am in the
minority, but I have been able to drink normally since about 7 days
post-op...

I would contact your Dr., but I too had this, even with water, no
vomiting... just discomfort. Once the swelling on the opening to the pouch
went down (about 4 weeks) I had no more problems. Now I can drink about
3-4 swallows of water at once and no pressure. You should still let your
Dr. know about it though, that's what he gets paid for, no sense worrying
about it. If it is a stricture, that is a relatively easy procedure. Take
care of yourself!
