Question:
Anyone heard of Implantable Gastric Stimulator (IGS)?
Has anyone heard of the Implantable Gastric Stimulator? I know they are doing studies at the New England Medical Center in Boston. There are other places in the country doing this study. Is anyone participating in this research? I can't get through to NEMC to even ask them how to apply to be a guinea pig. If anyone is participating, how is it going for you? I'm very interested in knowing more about these studies... I can't even find info about it from the NIH. — Amy N. (posted on October 2, 2002)

Patients are actively being sought (7/1/02) for the second phase of the
Implantable Gastic Stimulator (gastric pacemaker) study. The IGS is an
alternative surgical treatment option for morbid obesity. Interested
persons should call 617-636-0158. Check it out. Good Lux

I called NEMC today and they have enough for this study. Very soon they are
taking names for a LOW BMI study which I wwould not qualify for. I think
its an interesting alternative. There is a story out here of a woman who
did it recently. Look in the surgeon section under Scott Shikora. Good
luck !

Thanks Kim and Robert. I also read that message on their website about
accepting patients since 7/1/02. But, when you call, they have a recording
that they won't talk to anyone or take messages from anyone until possibly
November. Kim, how were you able to talk to anyone? How did you get past
their message? Anyway I will check out Shikora's review and look for that
person that is doing it. I'm very curious about it, so any info on it
until I can get through to NEMC will be welcome. Thanks!
