Question:
I am 5 1/2 month post op down 92lbs and I woke up this morning in severe pain...
My stomoache feels bloated and I am having sharp pains all through and around my sides. I can't hardly stand up straight or walk. I have never experienced anything like this before and being it is the weekend I really don't want to go to the emergency room. Does this sound like a kidney infection or uti or a blockage of some sort? Or just gas? — Robin B. (posted on September 30, 2002)

Call your surgeon or get yourself to the emergency room. Do not put it
off.

You may possibly have a bowel obstruction and this is a life-threatening
situation. Do not delay going to the emergency room.

I agree with calling your surgeon. IN THE MEANTIME, take a GAS-X or
PHAYSYME (sp??). Sometimes I get gas pain and it is EXTREMELY painful.
Gax-X will work in 5 minutes.

I don't know about anyone else, nut this has happened a couple of times to
me. I am a little over 3 months post-op and woke up in the morning with
sweaty palms and extreme stomach pain to the point where it hurt to move,
and take breaths. An hour later it was gone. I have come to the conclusion
that the night before I ate some pot roast before I went to bed and did not
chew a piece or two well enough. I went right to bed and it must have
settled during the night. When I woke up, I believe my body was trying to
pass the piece of food I didn't chew that well. The pain came as fast as it
left. The doc told me I am probably right.
