Question:
Everyone says a cup is the limit....
Then how come my diet plan (10 weeks out, 3rd diet) consists of meals that have various amounts of food, e.g, 1/2 C vegetable, 1 serving starch, and 2 protein, which when combined are well over 1 cup of food per sitting. I have read year post ops saying that they can only eat a cup. What's the deal? Thank you. — Lori A. (posted on September 24, 2002)

Each surgeon and nutritionist has different diet plans. Mine says 1-2 oz
total (of all foods) at each of 5-6 small meals. Now, at 10 weeks, I can
eat 4 oz of Wendy's chili (which is partially liquid) and 3 oz of imitation
crabmeat and 1/2 cup (4 oz) of Kashi Go Lean. Basically, the same amounts
of the other foods I eat as well. But not 1/2 c of vegetable and a
serving of starch as well as the protein. I've been concentrating solely
on the protein at this point and I must be doing something right. I had my
open RNY on 7/17 and am down 84 pounds...JR

Those amounts of food I mentioned are at separate meals. I didn't want
people to think I was eating the chili and Kashi Go Lean and imitation
crabmeat at one meal *G*...JR

Depends on your surgery. With the DS, I could eat about 1/2 to 1 cup of
food, depending on density of the food, immediately post operative. Now I
can eat about 2-3 cups of food and I am satisfied. My doc didn't specify
portions or any other type of 'diet' thinking. He said eat healthy food
and stop when you are full. I have lost 255 pounds, and weigh a svelte 239
pounds, in a little over 2 years. Seems to be working for me...

Hi, I havn't had surgery yet but I am having Open RNY. I saw the
nutritionist yesterday and she told me that at 1 year post I can eat 1 cup
of food per meal MAX. She said that is the most I should have per meal for
life. Hope this helps... Dana

Its funny, and so is your pouch....you pouch can hold diffent amounts of
different food....for example, I can eat 6-8 thin slices of deli cheese for
breakfast, but, I can only eat 2 slices of deli turkey...I can also eat 1/2
bowl or of soup and only 1/2 of a small Wendy's chili...plus, MY pouch is
different all all times of day, I have found that I can eat the most at
breakfast and the least at dinner...I would follow what your dtr &
nutrionist says, try it out, you will soon know how your body reacts. Good
Luck!
