Question:
Does anyone know of a journal specifically made for WLS patients?
I am looking for a type of journal I can write in to keep track of appointments, thoughts, feelings etc... I am considering surgery (consult appt 10/7). This sight has been a tremendous help, but I want something I can write in when not around the computer and something I can reflect on later in life or maybe even use as a tool to help friends who may go thru the same proceedure. If you have any suggestions or know of anything published that I can purchase, pls let me know. — A I. (posted on September 17, 2002)

I don't imagine you need to purchase anything expensive, although there are
several good journals out there ranging all the way up to $100+ dollars.
Myself? I'm a bonafide cheapskate and have kept track of this whole
experience, foot intake, feelings, etc. in some cheapo notebooks from
Wal*Mart. They're nothin' fancy, but they do the job fine. Also, I use
www.calorieking.com to manage my food intake electronically when I know I'm
going to be at the computer most of the day.

There is a journal on-line at www.alongtheweigh.com that is titled
"Weight Loss Surgery Workbook and Journal...Your Life Before, During
& After Weight Loss Surgery". It takes a long time to download as
it is something like 154 pages long....but it's FREE!!! and looks really
good.

Have you ever heard of the "Weigh Down Workshop?" It's a Bible
based weight loss program that many churches offer. Anyway, if you are
interested in a journal that has daily devotions centered around God and
weight loss, I suggest you go to www.weighdown.com and look in the Gift
Shop section. Under books you will find the Exodus Journal for $7.00. It's
pretty good. You can also do what I did and do a video diary. I have been
keeping up with it since 2 months pre-op. I'm so glad I did it!

Check out www.dietminder.com
They make different types of journels; the one I use is the dietminder. It
has places to keep a log of all your meals and counts
(calorie, protein, fat, etc), keep a record of your supplements and meds, the
amount of water you drink, the exercise you do, and your feelings. There
is even a section for photos and charting your weightloss. Each journel
covers about 3 months and costs $14.95. You can order by mail or get them
at amazon.com. Hope this is what you want. It's worked great for me!
