Question:
Is Dayquil or Nyquil okay post op?

Just curious...I'm heading to Texas from Oregon for my 20th reunion and low & behold...GUESS who is catching a nasty cold? Ticks me off...was curious if any of you post op patients have used Dayquil with no problems? Thanks ahead of time.    — Lisa J. (posted on August 13, 2002)

I will call your doctor....antibotics perscribed are fine, but, do you know how much alchol is in Nyguil/Dayguil, its like equal to a beer.

The liqui-caps don't have alcohol. I think the alcohol is what makes the nyquil so effective though. Dayquil doesn't have alcohol. I would go for a prescription though -- more effective in a smaller dose. I get "pearls" for cough medicine now, stumbled on that while on Atkins and couldn't take cough syrup. Good luck, just wanted to clarify the alcohol thing. A full dose of nyquil IS equal to a beer, but in a more concentrated form. Not sure how post-op you are, but that might be too hard on the tummy.

I take 1 nyquil gelcap and have never had a problem with it. I think if you took 2, it would be too much on your system but I've found that one gelcap works just fine, plus you don't have to drink that awful tasting stuff!!
