Question:
4 weeks PO Eating 2 much??
Ok, I am extremely paranoid that I am eating too much...I am 4 weeks out and as of last week down 31lbs..the first week was 11 lbs., 2nd was 13 lbs., 3rd was 7 lbs...the fact that I didn't loose as much the 3rd week really got me thinking...so here is what I ate today (your advice/words is sooo greatly appreciated): Breakfast: 1 Egg Scrambled Lunch: I cut less than a quarter slice of wheat pita off of a whole one piece, put a very thin layer of light mayo for taste, one piece of low fat American Cheese, a half a slice of turkey, salt, pep... Snack: Quarter cup of Kashi Go Lean, with skim milk to soften and Splenda. Dinner: Lean Cuisine Baked Chicken- 1 piece (comes w/ 3 tiny slices) in a bit of gravy for taste, a bit of mashed potatos. Snack: 2 tablespoons sugar free ice cream. Of course I drank water, and sugar free/caff free ice tea allll day... I am sooo paranoid at this stage..I seem to tolerate everything I eat, though I haven't crossed the line in terms of anything junky or sweet, etc...Oh yeah I eat watermelon...is this ok? You seem to be doing fine. For your own peace of mind why don't you
trackwhat you eat on fitday.com. I was told 70% protein 20% carbs and 10%
carbs. Good LUX

That sounds about like what I was eating but at 6 weeks out. The quantity
is the same but I was on soft foods until 6 weeks out. (But as long as your
dr has released you to "real" food, no worries!) It doesn't sound
like too much.

I'm with the previous poster... track on fitday.com that will help you.
Its been an eye opener for me, I'm really not getting much in the way of
calories and it sounds like you aren't really either. Keep track and then
speak to your doctor, or a dietician familiar with WLS to see what you
should be doing.

I don't think that sounds like too much. I am 2 1/2 months post-op. I am
able to tolerate pretty much anything I try to eat. It made me nervous at
first b/c I thought I was supposed to get sick or something with many
things. And as for not losing as much your third week, most people hit a
plateau or their weight slows down the 3rd or 4th week, your body just
catches up to the changes! So i wouldn't worry too much! :) goodluck!

you must eat protein only on carbs or sugar that means no
bread,pasta,rice,fruits or veggies.

Trish, you are doing fine. Your diet sounds just right at your stage.
Just remember to eat slow and chew well. And watermelon is fine. If you
don't dump on fruit sugars, then fruit is a great snack to get in that
vitamin C and a sweet treat. I love watermelon, cantelope, cherries,
peaches-yum. As for tracking your weight loss every week-you might as well
stop that right now. You will have weeks when you lose nothing (those darn
plateaus) and other weeks where you lose 1 or 2 or more pounds and even
some weeks where you gain a pound or two, even though you are eating
perfectly well. Our bodies do strange things as they adjust to such rapid
weight loss, so be prepared and don't expect such rapid loss every week.
Relax and enjoy eating like a normal person!

I strongly disagree with Mary. You should eat balanced meals, concentrating
on proteins first and then the fruits and veggies. Even breads and pastas
are ok. MODERATION is the key. What you are eating sounds great. Watermelon
is absolutely fine.

Hey, Kim is right. You cannot go no carbs and expect to stay healthy very
long. Carbs provide the PRIMARY source of cellular energy. Carbs also
prevent protein breakdown and excess fat utilization (ketosis). I am
losing weight and am not in ketosis. Ketosis can damage your heart and
kidneys. I cannot stress this enough. In some people it can happen in a
short time, and in some, it is never a problem. Most of us will go into it
from time to time, but to strive to stay in it...well, it's their body.
Ketosis represents that our body thinks it is starving because the energy
is being forced out of our cells so rapidly. Anyway, I think you are doing
great. Your loss is something to be very proud of too. As for the
watermelon, it is great for you and is full of water. Keep up the good
work!

I agree with other posters, Mary's idea of diet is too severe, too close to
a diet.. Mary, is that your doctor's instruction? Its important to note
that bread, pasta, rice and sugar... is very different from fruit and other
complex carbs like you find in whole grains. Eat some fruits and veggies
-- an all protein and nothing else diet is ultimately unhealthy.. just keep
your carbs to complex ones .. fruit, veggies, whole grains. Good luck.
Oh, by the way Mary, are you eating this diet yet? I think you'll find it
very difficult because almost everything has some carbs.

Sounds like you're doing great! Seems like there is a good mix of food
types and you've got the protein in there. I was eating about that as
well. I am almost 8 weeks post op and down 45 pounds. Balance is
definately the key!

It sounds to me like you're doing just fine. I can't agree more with the
posters who suggest using FitDay.com. I love it! Please don't worry about
the weight loss slowing down at week 3. I was on a plateau from weeks 3-5
and yes, it was discouraging but I kept on doing what I needed to do and
started losing again. Some weeks I lose a pound a day, some weeks I don't
lose anything at all for several days. But all in all, I'm down 72 pounds
in 14.5 weeks. Keep up the good work! :o)
