Question:
Anyone with lower BMI dealing with AETNA recently?
I have just had my LOMN submitted to AETNA and am very nervous. My BMI is about 41. I have not been at this weight for over 5 years. This past spring AETNA said that there had to be the 5 year histroy of MO for this surgery. I do have some co-morbidities, but I am afraid this 5 year thing will mees up my chances.
I am just wondering if anyone here has been approved by AETNA since this policy was started without being MO for 6 years. Thanks in advance for your help. — Helenjean P. (posted on July 19, 2002)

I had a couple of typos there! OOOPS! I meant 5 years, not 6.
Thanks!
I have been overweight, but not 100 lbs overweight for the
5 years.

I had Aetna and a BMI of 40, on my plan they will pay for a BMI of 35+
Co-morbids. Good Luck!

I've had AETNA for several years. My BMI was 41.5, with co-morbids and
they approved my surgery on the first go-around.
My surgery was March of this year.

I was just denied by Aetna HMO last week for my surgery that was scheduled
for 10/23/02 for not being morbidly obese for five years. My BMI is 43. I
will appeal this.
