Question:
Has anyone had such a long plateau?
I haven't dropped a lb since January . I am so scared. I had an EGD everything looks good. Dr mentioned possibly that I am eating wrong I don't understand. Had open RNY at 285 lbs and I am only at 212. Had surgery 061401 so I am one year out. I don't think I am going to loose anymore and I am so mad. I need some serious help, can't get into the doctor until the 29th and I don't think I am eating wrong. Can someone help me I don't know what to do and it is driving me crazy. Even if someone knows of complications let me know so I can approach the dr w/there....anything....if you can just give me something to go with..... — kimberly L. (posted on July 9, 2002)

Some basic questions: Are you exercising, eating mostly protein, low
carbs, low sugar, and lots of water? Are you snacking alot? Sometimes
upping your protein, lowering your carbs, and upping the water helps to
move it along again. If you are following all these, and still not losing,
then perhaps your doctor can help. I've heard of staple line disruptions
which allow food to go into the old stomach and allow more food to be
consumed. Maybe posting on here what you eat in a normal day would let us
see if it may be your eating habits....

Hi - I am 13 months out and feel like I have been on a plateau for two
months...am down 120#s and can't seem to budge from there!! For
example....tonight did not cook dinner just ate what was here....and that
is 1-11oz protein shake, 4 oz of cottage cheese, 1 slice of american
cheese, and one really thin slice of very lean lunch ham....I am STILL
hungry!! I know...it almost sounds like I am grazing....rough day & we
decided to fend for ourselves for supper....I tried to make all of the
choices protein...I will try upping the water also!! Good luck to you!

I had my surgery on 6/12/01...so we are almost the EXACT same time out. I
started out at 297 and also started a plateau at the end of January. I can
tell you flat out why I was on one...I ate too much or the wrong things, I
did not exercise, I have not been drinking my protein, I stopped
supplementing and have not been drinking my water. I just recently, the
last month, lost 9 more pounds, which brings me down to 169. Believe me
it's NOT easy to admit that I have done virtually EVERYTHING wrong since
January, but I have. I am not sure if this is the case with you...but take
an honest look at what you have been doing. It's possible that you have
done everything correct, if that is the case then get an upper GI and sees
if something else is going on. Best of luck...I hope everything is ok.

Hi, raising my hand on this one. MEE!! MEE!!! I am on the plateau from
Heck. I haven't lost any weight for going on over two months. I watch my
carbs, eat my protein, and exercise like a mad woman 4 to five times a
week, drink water, and on top of that chase 4 kids, (mine) and take care of
a 7 person household. I should be a twig, and I can't budge at all. I've
lost 165, and need to drop 40 more. The weird thing is, is that on all of
the diets I've been on in my whole life, I ALWAYS leveled off at this EXACT
weight. Everytime! I think maybe I'm not supposed to lose anymmore, this
being my "natural weight", and then other days I have myself a
good ol pity party about it. But I would take the other posters suggestions
and maybe look into carbs, protein, and water intake. Maybe by slightly
changing what you are doing, you may jump start your weight loss again. I
certainly hope my starts jumping soon, :) Good luck to you!!! :)
