Question:
I seem to be a slow loser. I had surgery 11 months ago and still have not hit the 100

pound mark. I seem to be such a slow loser - about 1 -2 pound(s) a week for past 5 months. I have increased exercise, water adn protein first. Any ideas? How many out there are also slow losers? I hope I will make it to goal eventually. Thanks everyone for listening!    — lovebug2 (posted on June 21, 2002)

Bethann, I haven't been a real fast looser either. I'm almost 9 months out, started out at 244 with a personal goal weight of 135 at 5'6". I am now down to 148, but got very impatient with these last few pounds. I looked through the archives here, looking for an idea to jump start my slowing weight loss, and found out about FitDay.com. I wish I had found this site earlier into my diet :) It calculates the nutritional information from the foods that you eat, calculates the calories you have burned through the day, keeps a chart of your weight loss, has comparison charts to show your progress and so much more! I have been using it for just 5 days but have lost 2 pounds that I feel I can credit to its use :) Best of all, it's free! Try it out!

Me too !!! I had surgery on 8/6/01 and have lost 72 lbs. I have about 50 more to go to my personal "weight" goal. I have reached my MAIN goal for having this surgery. My Type II Diabetes is gone and I no longer take meds for it...nor do I take meds for High bloodpressure. And I feel GREAT !!! Maybe one day we will both make our "weight" goal..just keep on keeping on !!!

I believe I 'out-turtle' all of you. I am just over 1 year out and I have lost only 60 pounds. Part of the deal is that I was a relative light weight, starting at with a BMI of 37. (I have co-morbidities which helped me qualify for surgery.) Part of the deal is that I am almost 50, not as young as some of you sweet young things, so my metabolism is sluggish. Part of it is that I have lupus and I get stuck on prednisone every now and then when I have a flare and that balloons me up every time, though I do not gain like I used to, only a pound or two, but it takes me weeks to reloose it. Talk about depressing. Objectively, however, I have met the criteria of loosing 75% of the weight I needed to loose within one year. I have not lost for about 3 months. I guess what I am starting to think that this tool of surgery has done what was promised. I must do the rest the good old fashioned way and be grateful for the boost. I do expect that the surgery will be helpful in maintaining.

Hello Bethann, I too lose about 1-2 pounds a week. However, some weeks, when I am on a plateau-nothing for weeks, and I am only 4 1/2 months post-op! Its frustrating, but as long as the scale keeps going down, and I have lost 60 pounds so far (most of this the first few months), then I am OK. I could never have stuck to a restrictive diet for 4 1/2 months with the ease in which I do so now.

Hey there!! This is me exactly, I am 11 months out and have lost about 98-99 pounds. But I havent hit that 100 pound mark just yet. I get so frustrated. I have looked through the whole library and havent been able to find anyone that lost as slow as me and still made it to goal. There are a lot of people that havent updated their profiles since posting something about slow weight loss. I have recently lost a few more pounds and a few inches but I have really had to increase my exercise. I dont understand why some people have so much trouble making it there and others have to work really hard to get there. On the other hand, I am a lot smaller that I was, and my co-morbs have almost gone. But this is the closest to normal I have ever been and I am desperate to get the rest of the way there. I wish you the best of luck. We will get there!!!

Thanks for the encouragement. I have lost about 88 pounds since my surgery in July. At first I lost really fast. Now weeks go by and 1-2 or no loss at all. At least I am not gaining. I worry that I have lost the window of opportunity, that something is wrong .... I am trying to stay postitive. I am glad for those who loose quickly.I am far from goal. I was over 300 lbs. I am now wondering about how much all of you are eating? Thanks again!! Bethann

Hi, Bethann, I had my surgery 9/27/01, almost 9 months ago, and I have lost 90 lbs. My starting weight was 258, and my goal is 154/ My weight loss has slowed down significantly, but I am not worried about it/ We are all different/ at 2 1/2 mos, I had only lost 24 lbs, and that was so depressing, but after Jan. I started to lose very fast, and now after Mar. it has slowed down a lot, but hey, maybe our skin will be more toned if we don't lose as fast, and what does it matter how long it takes, as long as it comes off, right? Hang in there and you will be fine!!! Patti Meadows/ e-mail: [email protected]

Bethann, If you'll go to my bio there is a link to my page at FitDay.com. It lists EVERYTHING that goes into my mouth daily, lol, somedays are not so good, such as yesterday, other days have been great! There is a tab at the top of the page with the date on it, you can click on the arrows to go back to previous days. I was down another pound yesterday so that's three I have lost this week thanks to FitDay.com.
