Question:
Has anyone tried Luenell birth control shot? Did anyone exprience weight gain on it?
I am thinking about getting the Luenell (sp) birth control shot. I am 2 months post-op RNY. Has anyone had any experience with this good or bad? I was on Depo a while ago & gained a ton of weight on it. So I won't go back on that! Has anyone experienced any weight gain on Luenell at all? I don't want to do anything to jepordize my surgery. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks! — Allison T. (posted on June 3, 2002)

Dear Allison,
I've been on the Lunelle shot for the last year. Im almost a year post op
(June 11,2002). I have not noticed any weight gain, nor any side effects to
the shot. I also have hormonal headaches, and the shot seems to control
them too. So thus far its been a god sent to me. Good Luck and talk to your
doctor about any concerns you have. :o) Open RNY June 11,2001, down 127lbs.

I've been on Lunelle since two weeks out of surgery. I gained a LOT of
weight on depo and have had no weight gain on Lunelle, nor have I noticed
that my weight loss has been slower. The difference is that Depo is
progesterone and tricks your body into thinking its pregnant. Lunelle is
basically the birth control pill in shot form with both hormones. You
still get your period every 28 days (bummer). I combined my B-12 shot with
my Lunelle shot every month.

Does this shot work? Have you had sex without any other form of protection
and not gotten pregnant?
I am off the pill now and I need something to go back to after surgery.

I was on the shot for about 8 months, and I loved the convenience a lot. I
dont know about weight gain, cause I was about 4 months postop when I
started. I went off it casue my periods came at REALLY weird times,
ususally 2 weeks after my shot. The patient literature said you may not
get it on the usual schedule, but to still get the shot every 28-33 days,
no matter when your period came. That meant I would get the shot 2 weeks
after my LMP - and I was afraid I might ovulate. I don't think that was
certain - but i didn't want to take the risk of getting pg. I did research
and couldn't find a good answer. This is MY experience, and it didn't
start being irregular for about 5 months. I think I will go back on it in a
year or so, just to see.

I am on Depo Provera wich is the same thing as the Luenell (which you get
once a month) But I get a shot every three months. I love it!!! I wish I
would have know about it before surgey. I have lost 99 pounds in 8 months
and I am down to 181 and a size 12!! So i dont think it has kept me from
loosing. Plus I dont have the water weight gain once a month since it puts
your ovaries in a sleep mode, you do not have a period. Both the Depo and
the Lunell are made by the same company and work the same with the
difference being once a month shot(luenell) or every three months. You can
go to their web site and read up on both products. I wish you lots of luck!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CHECK OUT THE FOLLOWING WEBSITE. www.depo-users.com.
I was on depo for 9 months, gained 60 lbs in 5 months, my period has not
yet returned to normal (2 years later) and I am having infertility problems
as well as other symptoms. Luenell is the same product in a lessor dosage.

Depo does not trick your body into thinking you are pregnant it tricks it
to think you are in menopause. Birth control Pills make your body think it
is pregnant.
