Question:
Any suggestions on how to tame the terrible smell from gas?
I am a little under 2mos post-op RNY & just started noticing a bad odor to my gas & bowel movements. This doesn't happen all of the time just every once in a while. Is it something I'm eating? I don't notice it with anything in particular. What can I do to get rid of the smell? Other than a gas mask or room spray..LOL! Is there something I can take by mouth? I heard there was something at GNC that will help. Is this true? — Allison T. (posted on June 3, 2002)

Hi there, I have been told that Beno might help. I was also toold that the
small is the fat breaking down and leaving your body. Hope this helps.

there are several things I've heard of to control the odor. A combination
of zinc and magnesium tablets, I take 1 of each in the a.m. and p.m., or
there are charcoal type tablets some BPD patients order that really have BM
odors and they are called devrom they get off of a website. Also my
surgeon recommended a spray that works really well I purchased it's an
orange/citrus spray you can buy at walmart in the automotive section, it
really does the trick!

The patient care coordinator, who is 2 and one-half years post-op at my
surgeon's office, recommended Devrom (Bismuth Subgallate 200 mg/tablet)
capsules. I was given a trial and have been sold! The toll free number to
order is 18004538808, you can order them at that number. I think they run
around $10.00 for 100. These 'supplements' are specifically for WLS
patients.

Beano is very effective for gas buildup. Take the recommended dosage
before eating trigger foods. The stench, for me anyway, comes when I eat
things high in fat. Anytime I fall off the wagon my bowels reminded me the
next day. See if there is any relationship to the stinkies and the fat
content in your diet...
