Question:
I feel like I am starving
I am 5 1/2 months out from surgery. As of late I feel like a ravenous animal. [I am about 1 1/2 weeks from my mensus].Could that be it ? It seems as if Iam constantly hungry. I can eat a slice of toast at a sitting, or about a cup of soft food . Any suggestions ? — Sherry S. (posted on May 23, 2002)

There is no reason to be HUNGRY with this surgery. If you have gone thru
the check list; you don't drink with meals (emptying out your pouch too
quickly); you don't have a staple line distruption; you drink all your
water; you eat all your protein & supplement the rest...then try my
little trick. It has been a saving grace for me. I keep a big pot of
homemade chicken broth in the refrig. at all times. Not only is it handy to
moisten meats (especially leftover chicken), but I sip on it. Get a huge
soup pot. Fill 2/3 with water; onion (quartered sweet onion); celery;
carrots; 1/2 tsp. white pepper; 1 bay leaf; 4-5 chicken bouillion cubes
(unless you cannot have salt); a whole chicken. Boil then simmer for 3-4
hours. I make chicken salad out of the chicken with fat free miracle whip.
I sip the broth a LOT and use it to fill me up. (my dh eats the veggies
& leaves the broth...)Try it.
