Question:
Has anyone had any complications from their hernia/s?
I'm 10 wks post-op and am quite certain I have at least 3 and maybe 4 hernias. I brought the bulges to the nurse's attention at 4 wks post-op and she didn't think it was a big deal and I don't think she even told the doctor. Sometimes I have pain in the areas where I think the hernias are located and I'm scared of strenuous exercise. I know people say that it'll help me have a TT, but I'm wondering about any complications that others have had with their hernias: pain, problems losing weight, ER visits?? — Jennifer C (posted on May 19, 2002)

The main complication you can have with a hernia is a bowel entrapment
which could mean a trip to the ER. The smaller your hernia(s), the more of
a chance you have of a bowel entrapment. I have one huge hernia and it has
caused me zero pain and no complications. In fact, my doc said it was
purely cosmetic, and I could get it fixed sometime in the next while, but
no big hurry.

I had a hernia at 11 months post op and my intestines came out and got
twisted. It was some of the worst pain I have ever had. I ended up having
emergency surgery for it, and then a week later had to have surgery again.
I only know that I could not have stood the pain much longer and I was
unable to eat or drink anything, it just came back up. I would tell the
Doctor about the bulges and let them make the decision if it's something to
worry about or not.
