Question:
Is it normal to feel a BUBBLE and pain when swallowing water?
I am 4 days post- op. I'm not drinking too much, too fast, changed temps of liquid too. But, when I swallow liquid I get a Pain it sits @ the top of my insison. Between the breast bone and ribs. It feels like a bubble moving inside. I even look to see it my skin moves. I sit gas? Any sugesstions? — Janet H. (posted on May 18, 2002)

To me that would mean i am either drinking to fast or I need to be sitting
straighter and burping more. Burping really helps in the beginning.

I am 5 weeks post op. This still happens to me. I has gotten better in
time, but it is still there. I take a drink and it feels like one big
bubble going down until it hits my stomach. Then it feels like it breaks
into tiny little bubbles and I can feel it rise back up towards my throat.
My surgeon said it will go away as I heal, and it has gotten better over
time. Good luck to you.

The same thing happens to me. It's getter better but I still can't take a
nice big sip. However, the Crystal Light Iced Tea doesn't give me that
pain and since it counts as water/liquid then I have been drinking that
more often because I can drink more of the iced tea then water.
Good luck

Hi, I had a little popping burp with every swallow until about day 10
post-op. It is painful and annoying but it will go away soon. Hang in
there! Hugs, Joy (16 days post-op open RNY)

Your taking in to much air when you drink. Try drinking with a coffee stir
straw it really small and it limits the amount of air you take in. It
really does make a difference it limits the amount of gas that builds up in
your intestines. good luck
