Question:
When can I lift?
How long after a lap RNY do I have to weight before I can pick up 23 lbs or so. It will be hard to stay away from picking up my 9 mo. old grandson for that long. :) Will ask my doctor as well but was wondering how long it took some of you to lift that much after surgery. — Lisa J. The chance of LAP incisional hernia is VERY SMALL if you havent had other
abdominal surgeries. My surgeon said to not lift 20 pounds or over for one
month. You MUST follow your surgeons orders, everyone is different.

I got a lap incisional hernia after gall bladder surgery from lifting my
daughter she was about 30 pounds then. Actually I didn't even know I had
the hernia tell the doctor opened me up for open RYN I wish he would had
left it because perhaps it would have helped me get approved for
a tummy tuck later. I quess there are some risks to leaving it.

I was told not to lift more than 15 lbs. for the first 6 weeks following my
lap RNY. Different surgeons have different opinions, so be sure to follow
your surgeon's instructions :-)
