Question:
Dizziness, Lightheadedness, and Weakness for a Long-term Post-Op
I will be two years post-op next month. I am down 172 lbs from 355. All my labs have been normal. I take my multivitamin with iron daily. For the past three weeks, I have experience dizziness, lightheadedness, and weakness in the afternoon hours. I searched the database for answers, and mostly found "me too" responses from early post-ops. My diet is normal, and I'm not pregnant. Any clues as to what could be causing this? Thanks. — [Deactivated Member] (posted on March 14, 2002)

The dizziness may not be related to your weight or WLS at all. There are a
number of things that can cause dizziness. If I were you, I'd make an
appointment with my PCP to have it diagnosed.

Gar is right, there are a number of things that can cause this, but the
first thing that comes to mind is dehydration. I don't know how much water
you're drinking, but it sure wouldn't hurt to try to get in at least 64 oz.
a day, or even more. Feel better, and let us know what you find out.

I am one year post-op and have this same problem. Come to find out that my
BP is too low now! Basically, my doctor said it's not dangerously low, but
I really should avoid standing up too fast or in getting out of the tub,
etc. Could this be your problem?

Denise,
Speaking from experience, I'd say you are likely suffering from
dehydration. I was experiencing the same things at 13 mos post op. I
mentioned it to my dr and he suggested I try getting in more water. Lo and
behold it worked.
