Question:
I had to go off all my Nsaids (anti inflamatory) meds!
I am in real pain tonight, does anyone out there know of anything I can take to ease this flare up? The Hosptial and surgeon told me I had to go off all these meds becuase of bleeding problems I could have in surgery. But, I am in so much pain I could cry. Any suggestions? I will see the doctor tomorrow. Thanks — RobinLPN. (posted on March 10, 2002)

That is one of the things I am worried about when I have surgery. I have a
herniated disc and bad knee problames and have to take Nsaids daily. God
bless, I will be praying for you.

Can you take Tylenol or other "non-aspirin"? Those are usually
OK for those of us who cannot take the tummy burners. It doesn't irritate
the stomach. You'd have to run it through your doc, but actually, for joint
pain, acetamenophin (Tylenol) is the product of choice. In the meantime,
does warmth or cold help at all?

Please don't take this the wrong way. I had a dog who was on anti
inflamitory drugs. They were from what I understand very simalar to the
ones people take. I took him off of them and got him acuipunture it helped
TREMENDOSLY. I have also used it to relieve pain.I would recomend this to
anyone.
Good Luck

The reason you can't take NSAIDS is because they can irritate the stomach
lining, something you do NOT want post-op. You can take Tylenol. You
might also ask your doctor if there's something he can prescribe to help
with the pain.

My doctor told me the same thing pre-op. No Motrin, Naproxen or anything
like it for 2 weeks pre-op. I took Extra Strength Tylenol before surgery
and haven't needed anything since. After losing 31 pounds since January
(11 before surgery and 20 since) the pressure on my joints has already been
reduced enough that I am anti-inflammatory FREE! Good Luck!
