Question:
Has anyone been extremely hot pre op? Does it get better post op?
I have become extremely hot--perspiring at 70 degrees and sometimes even cooler. Is this because of the weight or could it be something else. I am on two high blood pressure meds that have kept my blood pressure under control. But I will never make it this summer if I am this hot now. I am pre-op and wondering if it will get better afterwards or not. Thanks — curiousjane (posted on March 9, 2002)

When I was 314 pounds, I too would sweat like crazy when everyone else in
the room was comfortable. Now that I have lost all of my excess weight, I
get cold all the time. It comes from not having all of that extra
insulation on my body. I would much rather wear a sweater and be
comfortable than to be overweight!

Yes! I used to be hot all year long, even in winter. Now, at 75 pounds
less, I am frozen all the time. It's wonderful! I can wear sweaters and
layers and coats and everything. I never sweat now. I can't wait 'til
summer gets here for the first time in 10 years!

Hi, I know where you are coming from. Let me share at 349 lbs I would
sweat like a pig for no reason at 60 degrees.
I had to take cool water showers because by the time I got out of the
shower I was sweating. I would get dress and sweat, go shoping and sweat,
when I walked from the house to car I sweat, when I tried to clean house I
sweated. When I would bend over to put on my shoes. And My list goes on and
on. I was so embarrased when I would go to wallmart and by the time I got
to the check out sweat was running down my face, my hair would be
soaked....You would have thought I ran 3 miles. Yeah right. When I would
bowl I had to come home and take another shower because I was so wet from
head to toe. My undies always was wet, I hated to sit in some chairs
because when I got up there would be a wet spot. How embarrising. and My
heart would pound and beat so fast that I thought it would explode. When I
mention this to my pcp when i had my physical back in 2000 he told me my
heart was working mega overtime because of the excess weight I was carring.
Now at 140 lbs gone forever I dont sweat much anymore, and that is so
wonderful, now I will stop and talk to people that I see in stores, malls,
etc when before I would turn the otherway because I didnt want them to see
all this sweat running down my face and sweat beads dripping off my hair.
And I am speaking this is winter time, summer was much much worse. Thank
God those days are gone....

I was so hot pre-op that I got tested to see if I was going through the
change of life. It was just awful. Just breathing made me sweat.
Weighing 469 pounds didn't help. I even took one of those little clip on
fans with me to the hospital. I clipped it on the bed right by my face and
it was really a big help. I am very happy to say that 332 pounds later I
have turned into one of them. (You know, the sweater people) I live in S.
Florida and owned 1 sweater. Now I have a closet full and I get chilled
when I go into air conditioned places. I hope this helps.

I, too, was almost always hot and sweaty. My top weight was 267 and my face
always seemed red and damp and it was embarrassing. Now, I am about 54
pounds down after 3 months and I am cold much more often than I am warm.
For the first time since I was a kid in school, I'm actually looking
forward to the summer. It will be fun to get out and be active with my kids
instead of staying in the air conditioning all the time.

YES! I did the same thing...sweat just walking on a cool day. It was
terrible and embarrassing. I hadn't lost much weight...maybe 30 lbs before
I noticed a big difference. I compared it to taking off a 30 lb blanket
that I was used to wearing all the time. Now...I have a 140 lb blanket
gone...and I don't notice that I sweat much more than anyone else. It's
very nice:)

I was hot too before I had surgery. However, right after surgery (and I
mean the day of surgery) my body was like ice and I'm cold pretty much all
the time.
