Question:
I was denied payment on my intial Dr consult claim...
Being denied on my intial Doctors Claim Request (this was for the Doctor's visit, thats all) does this mean later when the insurance recieves my request for surgery will reply as they responded w/this claim "Your contract does not allow payment for this particular service." What does this mean as far as my approval! I am scared :( Has anyone else had this happen while waiting for approval????? — Vicki W. (posted on March 7, 2002)

Hi--my initial consultation was denied too (BC/BS Florida) but I am told
that once the approval is made--it is paid- according to your payment
schedule

The same t
The same thing happened to me in fact all my bills were coming back denied
including hospital for 22k! Come to find out the person who processes the
claims did not bother to verify that I was approved for the surgery in the
first place. If your surgeons office used the diagnostic code that has
anything to do woth weightloss they will deny it til your approval goes
thru. You could contact the surgeons billing office and see if there is
another code they could use. If your statement reads something like
treatment for weightloss is not a covered service this is most likely what
happened. I would hold off til you know something for sure. Once my bills
were resubmitted everything was paid including my initial consult. Hope
this helps...Kristen

My initial consult with the physician was not covered, but the surgery was
covered no problem. No idea why it works this way, but it does. Don't
worry.
