Question:
Does anyone think that a vitamin intake routine is associated with weight loss?
I asked this question last week, with no results. I am tryig hard to be dilligent with my vitamins, and I was curious to know if anyone sees a difference while sticking with their vitamin regimen. Im 5'1, 16 weeks post op yesterday, a lightweight, down ~45-50 lbs ( the scale keeps sliding) and starting to lose the hair. IS this all normal? — Rachel *. (posted on March 5, 2002)

I don't think that a vitamin intake routine is associated with weight loss,
I think, instead, it is associated with IMPROVED or maintained health. The
need for vitamins is due to the smaller quanty of foods we eat post op and
the malabsorption that is a significant part of some WL surgery procedures.
So, I don't think you will lose more or less weight if you're taking your
vitamins, I just think you will be more or less healthy! As for the hair
loss, you're right in the pack of "normal" there. Four months
post op is a typical time for hair loss to begin. Most people seem to
either have it or don't have it... it doesn't seem to be changed based on
vitamin/protein intake. Good luck.

I don't think the vitamins/minerals really affect your weight loss either,
but the lack of some of them can be very damaging to your health. Lack of
calcium WILL cause osteoporosis and that won't show up for a long time.
Other problems can result from other vitamin and mineral deficiencies,
which is why you really do need to take them as a post-op.
