Question:
My blood test results: my blood clumps...What does that mean?
I hope I am explaining this right. I had my pre-op blood work done from my PCP a few weeks ago. They called me back & said that they needed to take my Protime again ( I think that's right). The nurse said the reason for that is my blood clumped. What does that mean exactly? She said they wanted to take my blood again just to make sure it wasn't a mistake because I was so young. Now, I'm on blood pressure meds. does that have anything to do with that? That kind of scared me! Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! — Allison T. (posted on March 5, 2002)

Your blood clots too fast, meaning that you could form a blood clot easier.
A protime (or prothrombin time) is a calculation of just how fast the
blood is clotting. Common drugs like Coumadin, Levoxyl or Heparin will
help thin out the blood and reduce your chance of forming a blood clot.
The protime just makes sure that you are getting it to a healthy level. If
it goes untreated, you could form a clot and possibly suffer a stroke.
With medication, however, it is treatable! Good luck to you!

Just wanted to clear something up - I said Levoxyl as one of the blood
thinning medications, and the drug is Lovenox! Sorry!
