Question:
3 Weeks post and ate half a fillet of fish. Is this too much?
I went to Mc Donalds today and was able to eat a fillet of fish. My question is , is that to much for a person to eat 3 weeks post-op ? Aiso, I,ve noticed that I want to nibble constantly. If I try to sit down for a meal I end up vomiting 90% of the time.[I usually eat a slice of cheese for a snack.] Has anyone else encountered this ? — Sherry S. (posted on February 16, 2002)

Hi! The wanting to nibble constantly is head hunger. I have found the
hardest thing about recovery is the mind games we play with ourselves. At
2 months, I still do it sometimes. Are you eating 6 small meals? That
might help. Are you eating too fast or thinking about the possibility of
throwing up as you take the first bite? I don't think you over ate with
the fish. If you didn't get sick or feel overfull, it was probably
something you really wanted and it tasted so good, your mind and body were
content. I am only going by the battles I have fought with myself, but
hope it helps.

I find that if I take one bite (small) then wait a full minute then another
wait and eat like this I'm able to get through a full (2-3 oz) meal. I'm
4wks post op.

Why are you eating at McDonalds three weeks post op? STOP GOING TO FAST
FOOD RESTAURANTS. It doesnt matter how much of the filet you can eat, it is
bad for you, especially when you factor in the cheese and tartar sauce. If
you are in a bind and are out and about, travel with protein bars, beef
jerky and string cheese in your purse. You only have a short window to
change your eating habits and McDonalds should not be on the list of 'do's'
while you are trying to get to goal weight.

With all due respect to anonymous, cheese was on my post op diet list at 3
weeks out as was fish. Now maybe McDonald's wasn't the best choice but it
is better than not eating at all. She didn't mention (so we don't know) if
she ordered that without sauce, took off the bun or pulled off the
breading. If she did any of those things it makes it a fairly acceptable
food choice. I just don't understand why people on this site are so harsh
to other post-ops. Any question is a good question. In addition, every doc
has different post-op diet orders and we don't know what hers are. Even if
she DID make a bad food choice (and I'm not saying she did) I can't imagine
that anyone is so perfect that they will follow every single order diet
wise from the time they leave the recovery room till the day they die.

Hi, I also had an open RNY Distal...I was on Pureed foods for the first 4
weeks..not for any other reason than giving the new pouch time to HEAL. I
am surprised that all doctors do not recommend this! As far as the
McDonalds Fish..Funny, my last doctors appointment before surgery I ate one
and was so sick...diareha, vomiting.. I don't think it is a good choice...
WAY TO MUCH GREASE!! If you go to a fast food place maybe try grilled
chicken ..no mayo..bun off..anything breaded at a fast food place was deep
fried. I am 9 weeks out and at times I feel like I can nibble...DON'T do
it! If I am hunrgy..I make a protein shake or a small meal. Cheese ...Low
fat, Yes!
