Question:
I am having some pain elow rib cage and at bottom of sternum
I am 5 months post-op and within the past week I have had a constant, dull pain along my rib cage and at my sternum. If I press on my stomach at the top of my incision (just below my sternum it is tender. I have had some diarrhea (could be unrelated). Eating, drinking etc. don't seem to make the pain any better or worse. Any ideas what this may be? I DO NOT have a gallbladder. — [Anonymous] (posted on February 11, 2002)

Although she has not had WLS my mother has those same symptoms from a
hiatel hernia. You definately should see your PCP.

I had this problem immediatley after returning home from surgery. it lasted
2 weeks. I attributed it to swelling. my sternum felt like it was broken,
and my ribs felt as if I had gone 12 rounds with Suger Shane Mosely. But it
eventually got better. I have no clue what it could be at 5 months Post op.
maybe gas?

I had this at about 8 months out. Felt kind of nauseaous from it.
Reminded me of GERD, without the sting. It subsided after about 2 weeks.
Doc said it could be from the small hernia I have (though I never figured
out how that was possible).
