Question:
When will the feeling like I have air stuck in my esophagas go away?
I am two and a half weeks post op and doing great. I have never gotten sick or thrown up. I have been able to keep everything down, but when I swallow my potassium pill or even eat I feel like I have air stuck in my esophagas. I can't explain it. It will make noise like I have to burp but I don't and then after awhile it will just pass. Sometimes I even get the hecups from it. I am chewing my food really good and I just need some input on this. How long does this happen and when will it go away. — Nicole F. (posted on February 5, 2002)

I had this for quite a while--about 3-4 months. I still get it
occassionally, but now it is mostly when I drink water. I still have a lot
of trouble getting water down. Maybe I tend to gulp it and get air in at
the same time or something.

I am 8 weeks post-op, and at the beginning I had this alot. I still get
sometimes. Try to wait 2-3 minutes between bites. This helped me alot.
Try to take a bite and do something, like I might do my bills, take a bite
write a few checks, address a few envelopes etc, then take another bite,
etc.

I get this a lot as well. I usually try to stretch or lie down until I burp
or massage the area until it passes. I'm almost 2 weeks post op Open RNY.

I called my dr. when i got this feeling, like nothing would go down,
belching and air. The nurse explained that this is the stomach swelling
post-op, and is normal and will subside. I took small sips of everything
and couln't get in all my liquids in that day, but that is going to happen
too.
