Question:
Why am I late?
I'm approximately 5 1/2 mos post op from a VBG and down 62 lbs which brings my weight to about 187. My period is 4 days late. Even before surgery when I was at my heaviest, I was like clock work. I got laid off in December (no big deal, I knew it was coming for like a year) and so I've been sitting at home relaxing, sleeping, blah blah and now this. I took 3 OTC pregnancy tests and all were negative. What could cause this? Could I be pregnant? Thanks for any help!! — [Anonymous] (posted on January 30, 2002)

I was told to be very careful if I don't want anymore kids after surgery as
alot of us become more fertile. Even with having done the 3 tests you may
still be pregnant HCG the pregnancy hormone can take longer to show up in
some people. The best thing to do is have you doctor do a bloodtest the
hormone shows up quicker in the blood than urine. If not they will be able
to check for other causes who knows it may just be stress related.

Don't panic! I am going through the same thing as we speak. I am 8 months
post op, and my periods have been irregular lately. They were pretty
regular until I started exercising, and recently I have increased the time
and frequency that I am exercising, and have been doing it more vigourously
every day. I am now almost two weeks late, but can't imagine I am pregnant
as my tubes are tied. I am told that the exercising could be the reason for
the lateness, especially since I have recently increased my workouts so
much. My question to you is this, have you recently started to exercise or
recently increased the amount or the verocity of what you are doing during
your workouts? Ask your doctor if he thinks that could be what is
happening, I plan to as well! Good luck!

I would check the pregnancy test again when you are two weeks if you use
the home method. My doctor told me the home test are not accurate until
about 2weeks or more and MUST be the first urine in the AM. Good luck to
you.... you could be pregnant..... I hope this is a good thing???

Rapidly losing weight can wreak havoc with our hormones. I also was like
clockwork, I even mark my calendar so that I can 'predict' what day I will
start next month. I was always 28 days on the nose. Now I am 3 months
post and I just had a late period AGAIN. And I would definitely wait until
you are a couple of weeks late before trying the test again, or you will be
wasting your money. I hope this comes out in your favor!!

Just an update, it finally came, not pregnant. Thanks for all your help!
I've been married over 2 years so it would have been a good thing, just not
planned. Thanks again!
