Question:
I need some reassurance. I am almost 1 yr PO and have lost about 153.
I started at 376 and now 223, can I get below 200? I am 5'7" and according to this boards calculator my "ideal" weight is 147. Please, tell me my chances of seeing 170. I drink all of my water, get in my protein, and watch my carbs. I go to the gym 4 -5 times a week and walk about a mile a day. My weight loss has been plateaued, (I hope) for the last month. But I had been loosing @ 10 lbs per month. I really need some assurance. Thanks — Sue B. (posted on January 21, 2002)

Sue you are doing great. You are doing everything you should and the
weight will come off. I was on a plateau for 2 months then all the sudden
started losing again. Hang in there!!

Sue, you are doing just perfect!!! I am 14 weeks post-op and don't think I
have ever gotten all of my protein in!! I drink shakes and eat meant and
man is it hard. I also don't think I have ever gotten in all of my water.
You must be doing something right. Keep it up, I read that when you are on
a plateau, your body is "shifting" its weight. You go girl!!
You will get below 200.
Hugs to you!

Sue, my dietician told me that if I wanted to break a plateau, to drop a
serving from each food group (except protien) and have just a protien shake
for breakfast. She said the plateau would break within a few days, and you
will start losing again. Someitmes we are taking in the exact amount our
bodies need to maintain at a specific weight. By reducing caloric intake a
little, it starts to burn the fat again... it says, "OH! Yeah!! I got
this stuff to get rid of before I get the good stuff" LOL... but don't
starve yourself. You are doing awesome!! I hope I can get to where you are
at!!! We are the same size and almost the same starting bmi!!

Okay, I started at 370. I am 6 mths post op and have lost 121 pds thus far.
I got this tip from Gracen a.k.a. lightening bug. If you are doing what you
should maybe you need to change up your exercise routine. For those of us
that are avid exercisers now our bodies can get real comfy with a certain
routine and not really respond to it anymore. Remember how you would be
sweaty and out of breath when you first started working out? Do you feel
that same way? I know 6 mths ago I wanted to cry after 6 minutes on the
staionary bike and I could not walk for longer than 5 minutes on the
treadmill, but boy did I feel tired after those workouts. Last month, I was
doing my new "standard" workout of 1 mile in 14 minutes twice a
day and I didnt break a sweat!!! So I changed it, my body was too comfy.
Now I do 2 miles in the morning and 2 at night and even threw in some
weight training. i am even thinking baout going to an aerobics class, but
its not enough time in the day yet!! I am working on it though! Try
switching up your exercise routine and really working yourself and raising
your heart rate, go for the burn. If you can do 5 days a week like you are
now, then you are obviously in much better shape, take advantage of that.
Good Luck!!
