Question:
Can someone recommend a really good moderately priced treadmill?
I'm getting a treadmill next week. I'd like to get one for around $300, if possible. I want a good electric one with varying speeds...is that asking too much in that price range? I've seen alot out there, but don't know how to choose. Also, where is the best place to purchase one? Thanks! — Donna L. (posted on January 20, 2002)

Donna,
There are a couple of places that I'd look. In the Denver area, there are
stores called Play It Again Sports. They're like a consignment store for
all kinds of exercise and sports equipment. Also, I'd check the want ads
in the paper. The fact is that many people buy treadmills, stationery
bikes, weight benches, etc. with great intentions and then never use them.
When they finally decide they want the space back, those are two of the
ways they get rid of them.

Way too funny! I was just shopping for one myself, and found a great deal
on-line with FREE SHIPPING! Go to www.workoutwarehouse.com--It's a Weslo
treadmill for $299, and the item # is 29466. I currently own a Weslo which
I have had for over 5 years now, and it still works great. I was just
checking to see if the newer ones had anything different. It doesn't have a
power incline, but the one I have now doesn't either. I've never missed it!
Good luck to you and happy walking!

My husband got me one for christmas from fingerhut and it only cost about
100.00. Now it has no adjustments..its just a plain walking tredmill at a
slant, but does the job and i try to walk at lunch time even if just around
the block...GOOD LUCK

I too am looking for one. Yesterday, I went to Wal-Mart, they have 3 to
choose from. The price ranges from $197.00 to 399.00. They are
electronic, with speed ranging from 5 miles to 10 miles. Also try looking
in your local newspaper for used treadmills, sometimes you can find a very
good one for $100.00 or less.

walmart. i bought the best treadmill there. it's electric has 2 inclines
adjustments and comes with three sets of hand weights. it goes from just
walking to running, and it is very sturdy. i paid 309.00 with tax. i've
used it for some time, and so has my family and it has taken the abuse just
like a treadmill from a health club would.

Donna, when choosing a treadmill, make sure that you find out, either from
the salesperson or online, what the weight limit is on the treadmill. I
say this because, in my experience, treadmills costing less than about 2
grand seem to have weight limits of 250 lbs. I made this mistake in the
past--bought one for about one grand that turned out to have a 250 weight
limit. As I was over 250, the treadmill started to become jerky under my
weight and at times, just ground to a halt. Very disconcerting! I've also
found that one has to specifically "ask" for this
information--salespeople don't tend to volunteer it. Maybe you could find
one that cost two grand originally, but someone is selling it for a few
hundred? God's blessings to you, in any event.
