Question:
Is it more important to get all your protein in (65 g) and not worry about your
calories being too low or do you have to have a minimum number a calories as well. I am drinking 2 protein shakes a day and eating a lot of seafood which doesn't amount to much over 600 calories a day. I am 3.5 months post op RNY and have lost 65 pounds but it has slowed down the past couple of weeks. Thanks for your input. — Judy A. (posted on January 8, 2002)

You also need some fat and carbs for your body to do its thing. Without
them you will get dry skin and other stuff. I usually stayed between
800-1000 calories for about 6-7 months. I only had the one plateau (weeks
3-6). I think eating more would boost your weight loss. Try eating 5-6
small meals. Crackers with cheese is good. Fruit is great. If you like what
you're eating, just add to it. Good eating and good luck!

You are eating the right stuff! Plenty of protein with a minimum of carbs
and fat. The only thing that I can think of is for you to be eating a few
lower carb vegetables along with the seafood and fish for the added
nutrition. A little shredded Romaine, a few cubes of tomato and cucumber
with a little dressing will add some fiber and vitamins... plus they taste
great with the fish. I think you are getting in more calories than you
think as the shakes must be 200 calories each. Maybe you can add a protein
bar to your diet... will pump up your protein by 25 grams and add a few
more calories as well. You are doing great and will definitely be
successful in getting to goal!
