Question:
Any post-ops out there who had surgery and then moved?
I had my open RNY in November 2001. I may be moving in the next few months and was wondering what to do about follow up. Do I need to find a surgeon to follow me or does my surgeon help me with that? Also, how does another surgeon feel about taking on somebody else's patient? If anybody out there has gone through this please let me know. Thanks! — purdue_1993 (posted on January 7, 2002)

I moved from Texas to Louisiana the day after I got out of the hospital
from my revision to RNY. A week later I was re-hospitalized in LA with a
major infection. My surgeon kept in constant contact with the hospital and
helped to direct my care. I drove to see him until I was released to go
back to work (4 weeks post-op). After that, I found a surgeon in LA and
called to ask if he would take on my aftercare and he agreed. I had him
write up a list of labwork required and took it to my PCP to draw and then
had them fax the results to the new surgeon. I am now back in Texas so I
could go back to my original surgeon if the need were to arise. It can be
done. Good luck!

Amy,
I had my RNY 4-16/01 then moved to Ohio from PA. My surgeon wants me to
keep coming to him. So I need to take a trip to PA every 6 months or so.

Kristina, not only did you move but your surgeon did too. Sayeed took a
position heading up baractic surgery in minnesota or something. Dont worry,
doctor Schauers group will take good care of you in your post op life.
Interestingly enough, Sayeeds father, also a surgeon with the same name is
now learning Lap surgery with Dr Schauers group. We met him at Januarys
support group meeting.
