Question:
Is it too late for the flu shot?
Does anyone know if it is too late for the flu shot? I actually did have the stomach flu about 3 weeks ago. So is it even benificial for me to get it now? I am planning to have surgery in March and want to stay as healthy as possible. Also, does this help with colds too or just flu? If not what is good to help with preventing or shortening the length of colds? It seems like I am constantly getting colds!! Thanks for your help! — Allison T. (posted on December 29, 2001)

Allison, Congrats on having surgery in March! I wish you the best! No, it
is not too late for your flu shot and yes I would recommend it. I had
surgery on November 19th and got my flu shot on the 2nd of November. Not
sure your surgeon's protocol but my surgeon wanted me to have it at least
two full weeks before surgery in case I had a reaction to it. I would
check first with your surgeon and then get a shot!

No it isn't too late to have the flu shot. Stomach flu as they call it has
nothing to do with influenza. That is an upper respiratory infection cause
by a strain of virus that involves the muscus membranes.. ie, nose, mouth,
lungs, throat..etc. Stomach flu is an intestine irritation usually caused
by a bacteria. Those your tummy can get sensitive during influenza due to
too much muscus building in the stomach cause nausea or vomitting or loose
bowels they are not the same in theory. So most definately go get your shot
especially if you are asthmatic, other respiratory problems or a week
immune system.
