Is it too late for the flu shot?

Does anyone know if it is too late for the flu shot? I actually did have the stomach flu about 3 weeks ago. So is it even benificial for me to get it now? I am planning to have surgery in March and want to stay as healthy as possible. Also, does this help with colds too or just flu? If not what is good to help with preventing or shortening the length of colds? It seems like I am constantly getting colds!! Thanks for your help!
