Question:
Alabama pre and post ops I need help!
Can anyone help me please. I have already been for a surgical consultation with Dr. Andrew Dewitt in Bessemer Alabama only to find out that my insurance has an obesity exclusion in it.. On top of that, my husband lost his job. So, if I keep this insurance with the obesity exclusion in it, the cost will $502.00 a month is it worth it to keep this insurance and try for an appeal? I have no PCP really that has seen me over the years and I also do not really have any Dr. supervised dieting. Will I be wasting money and time? My other question is. I am legally not married so considered a single mother of 3. Can I get on medicaid and get them to pay for this surgery or would Alabama Vocational Rehab pay for it? I am 100 pounds over and BMI is 43. Anyone that can help******************* Please Please Please****************** Email me at [email protected] -- Cathy — Cathy B. (posted on November 10, 2001)

I dont know about Medicaid or Vocational rehab but I do know that before
you let your cobra window close you should make sure you have some form of
coverage. I had a friend that let her cobra lap thinking she was getting an
individual blue cross policy but they turned her down because she was over
weight. So now she has no insurance. So just be careful and make sure you
dont loose coverage completly. Good Luck.

I am not from Alabama but I am from Ms and know a couple things about this.
One is the fact that you CAN get medicaid because of your kids and not
being married and it WILL pay for this surgery. Second thing is that
vocational rehab will also pay because this is effecting your ability to
work. Either way would be a plus. I am not sure about the cobra as all ins
companies are different but medicaid would allow you to get approved
quicker than rehab at least they do here.
