Question:
How soon post-op will I be able to start lifting my husband and providing his care?
My husband has cerebral palsy and I can't find any help to care for him while I recover. He is a total lift and as I am the primary bread-winner I can not afford to have a health care agency come in to care for him. Any suggestions or agencies that anyone is aware of out there? — Randi K. (posted on October 27, 2001)

The usual amount of time you have lifting restriction after open abdominal
surgery is 6 wks. It may be shorter for Lap surgery, I'm not sure. I used
to do home care and used a Hoyer lift..would something like that help you
out? Wouldn't your hubby qualify for Medicaid home visits or anything? I
sure wish you luck on your surgery and your situation. Keep up the great
work:) Hugs

Check with your county Department of Human Service.
Since you will be off with no income you may qualify for assistance.
