Question:
Yet another hair loss question....

Hi, I'm on the road to getting the DS, but I'm really worried about losing hair. I've got really pretty long brown curly hair (at least I like it, lol) and I don't want to lose it. I understand that I will enevitably have some hair loss, and I've read all the other questions on this issue, but no one has really answered my questions: Is it noticable to the general public? I mean do you have like bald patches or is the loss pretty evenly distributed? Does it just look like you have thin hair for the most part? I like my hair :( My boyfriend likes my hair ;) I just don't want to look like more of a freak than I already do... if that's possible :P    — [Anonymous] (posted on September 27, 2001)

I have the same concerns as you. I have red hair down to my waist that my husband just loves. Im 10 weeks out and have been faithfully taking zinc and biotin daily along with my multi vitamin twice a day and the loss so far has not been noticible. I have my fingers crossed that it will continue like this but I hear the worst is at 3 mos. I say try the supplements. What have you got to lose but your hair.LOL Good luck

Eat your protein! Your hair is made up of protein, so it makes sense if you don't have enough protein that your body will not produce more hair. I am right at 3 months out and still have a full head of healthy hair. I eat between 50 to 60 grams of protein each day and have not lost any hair yet. Good Luck!

My surgeon said your hair is not falling out but breaking off. This is from the new hair growth after surgery being weakened. I definitely had hair loss from the 4th to 7th months post op. However, except for the fact that I practically had a hair carpet on the bathroom floor it was not noticeable on my head & is now just as thick as ever. I also did not take any "hair" supplements.

I was also concerned about hair loss after reading the questions on this site. Fortunately, during the time I was contemplating the surgery, I met a woman whose hair I admired. She told me a hairdress had recommednd she use "Queen Helene Garlic Shampoo" (it doesn't smell!) and it's complementary conditioner. I started using it and noticed a difference in the thickness in my hair before too long. I began using it prophylactically, hoping it would prevent hair loss after the surgery or, at the very least, prevent as much hair loss as I would have had without it. I am now almost 8 weeks post-op and have not had any problem yet.

I had the DS on April 12. I noticed my hair falling out at 3 months. I am not quite at 6 months but it seems to be slowing. My hair was thinning before surgery and I can see my scalp through my hair. I am hoping it grows in thicker. We shall see!

I started losing hair at about 3 1/2 to 4 months. I have lost about 1/3 but it is even and no one can see it but me. You may try some volumizing products if you start to lose hair. It will make the remaining hair appear thicker. Actually I find that my hair is easier to manage now and that the loss is slowing somewhat. Good luck!
