Question:
Sore throat, five weeks post-op...what can I take to stop the coughing?
I am wondering what I can take to give me some relief from a sore throat and all the coughing that I have. I am afraid of getting a hernia from the coughing and my throat is killing me. I don't know what to take. Since it is Sunday I can't call my Doc, so I was wondering if any post ops could help. Can I take Ibuprofin or nyquil? — [Anonymous] (posted on September 23, 2001)

I wouldn't take the ibuprophen and I don't know about the nyquil. You don't
want to take anything that is going to irritate your stomach. I think I
would probably get some childrens tylenol liquid.

My doctor told me Robitussin DM was ok to take. I have the same thing
right now....must be going around! I am going to have revision to a
transected pouch in a couple of weeks and I am trying really hard not to
get sick. I couldn't take Nyquil because the sugar in the alcohol may make
you dump. Take your vitamins!

If you know of a good pharmacist, ask him or her. They know more about
drugs than most doctors anyway. Also, Ibuprofen is a no-no, and Nyquil, I
beleive, is loaded with sugar. I've heard Tylenol Cold & Flu (not sure
if that's the correct name) is pretty good, but I'd check the sugar
content. Feel better!

My pharmacist has sugar-free cough syrup in a variety of flavors. Maybe
yours does too -- might help to check it out. Nina

put your throat on "N'Ice" -- great sugar-free cough drops!
