Question:
ANY BODY ODOR PROBLEMS POST-OP??
Even at over 300 lbs for several years, I did not ever have a problem with body odor. My deoderant/antipersperant served me well. Now, since loosing 80lbs, just in the last month, I have started stinking! I have tried four different deoderants, and, of course, shower every morning, just as I always have, with antibacterial/deoderant soap, but, by noon, I can smell myself! I have an underarm BO that I cannot get under control!! Has anyone ever had this happen? Is there some explanation and a solution?? I work in very close quarters and don't want to be offensive!! I am feeling so good about the way I LOOK, and now I start smelling bad!! Wahhhhhhh!! — [Anonymous] (posted on September 15, 2001)

First off, congradulations on your weight loss. I haven't lost that much
weight yet (surgery 8/27/01) But I have always had a problem with underarm
odor. I have resorted to wearing both a dry roll on antipersperant and a
spray. It's my bodies way of getting rid of the poisons. I also think that
when you are buring fat it comes out in the pores as well.(don't quote me
on that though) Anyway, if your problem is just underarm odor, you can talk
to your doctor about it and there is a prescription deodorant he can give
you that dries up your sweat glands. I used it for a while and it works
pretty good. However, it did end up irratating my skin. Worth a try.

I'm pre-op but I have problems, and I have found Gold Bond powder several
times a day helps (along w/my deoderant). I use the medicated kind. Nina

There is a deodorant/antiperspirant that you can sometimes find in health
food stores under the brand name "Lavilin." It is a rather thick
cream, and a little goes a long way. It may be hard to find, but I'm sure
the Internet can give you more information. BTW, congrats on the weight
loss... Margie B

A friend of mine had problems with her son having bad underarm odor. She
was told to make him take Chlorophyll tablets and she said it has done
wonders for him. I hope this helps.

I have an answer that might help your BO problems. I am allergic to
deodorants, and have to use the stone you buy at the health food stores. I
still sometimes get a rash so I asked the dermatologist about the rash in
my arm pits. He told me to use Nizoral shampoo in my pits weekly and leave
it on for the few minutes the directions tell you. I have also used Head
and Shoulders on my pits, and as a showergel. It is a fungus (yeast) I
think that causes the odour. I have not had my surgery yet, and control any
rash problems with Nizoral or Head and Shoulders or any dandruff
shampoo.
I have a strong body odour when I can't use deodorants, and this does work
for me. If I have a rash I can use this shampoo and I can go for the day
without deodrant. Before I found this out, I would have to wash my pits
several times a day when I had to go without deodrant. I hope this helps.
This should work for anyone who has strong body odour.
