Question:
Has anyone ever experienced anything unusual happening to their hair after surgery

Lately one part of my hair (the top back part) has been stringy and almost dirty feeling. (not sure how else to describe this). I have tried everything; switching shampoos, not using conditioners, using shampoos that remover build up, etc. Nothing seems to be working. So I was wondering if this is somehow related to the surgery I had. (Open RNY) Any suggestions or help with this would be greatly appreciated.    — Karrie W. (posted on August 23, 2001)

Yes, my hair loss started with that feeling of dryness (almost like it was plastered with hair spray) after surgery I lost better than 1/2 my hair by the end of the 5th month post-op WLS.. The fall out slowed at 6th month and stopped at 9th month.. I was just getting new growth back pretty well, when I had an Abdominolplasty surgery 1/2/2001 and circumferential body lift 6/15/2001...I'm 2 months psot-op from that surgery and again I am loosing hair (sigh) part of the normal occurrence of any major surgery, not much I can do about it except pump the protein and keep up the vitamins.. My hair was a good trade off, so I don't dwell on it..

Did you just have your surgery a few weeks ago? My hair was really oily right after my surgery too. It cleared up when I went back to work and got more on a normal schedule. You should be fine soon!
