Hi all. Unfortunately, yes, this is the truth. I was hoping it was all a evil hoax, but it isn't. I have spoken with Chris her brother, and he told me the tale of how everything happened. I will summarize it best I can below. A while back Toni injured her ankle. As some know, she was very unsteady on her feet and was hospitalized for it. Unfortunately, back in July, when she had her RNY, she acquired an UTI- urinary tract infection, and battled it for quite a long time. After a while, Blue Shield decided that not only that she was well enough to be discharged, but that she should be placed in a nursing home for rehab. Her doc was against this. They did NOT heed his recomendation. In order to save a few bucks, they placed her in a nursing/rehab place for her ankle rehab. She went thru many trials and tribulations there and kept us pretty informed to her "journey" there. Last week, if I am correct, they readmitted her for the UTI. Within a couple days time, the infection took over her kidneys and sent her into kidney failure. It was a situation that basically was caught too late. Due to the jerks at her insurance company not allowing her receive the proper course of treament - we have lost our Toni! On a last note, I wanted to add, please VOTE when you can- voice your opinion to your congressman - they are our voice right? This was a needless death in my eyes! She was my bud! I was her surgery angel. I am so disgusted with this I want to vomit! The "system" really sucks! I am not saying all blue shields are alike- but hers was responsible for her death in my opinion. Yes, I am angry. Touche' Rest in peace my angel! You are now looking down upon us and forever will be our Miss America wearing your tiara proudly! To the family of Toni I am so sorry for your loss. No words can help at this time, but just remember as long as you remember someone in your heart they are only a thought away from you can still warm your heart with there thoughts.

Toni passed away Nov 1 2002 due to complications I don't have the full details of. When I learn more I will post. I don't think it was directly related to her WLS because she was so far out- her surgery was in July. May she rest in peace and we can all say a prayer for her family members! I will miss ya Toni!

Toni, congratulations and welcome to "The Other Side!" So glad, especially, to hear that you had your surgery done Lap; my starting BMI was 81.0 and I still praise my surgeon for his skill in being able to do mine Lap, and I'm over a year out! {{{Big Hugs}}}
