One hell of a resolution!

Dec 10, 2007

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, just not much going around here at Manzie Headquarters

January 3rd is the big day!
That's one hell of a news years resolution!
I will be going back home to visit my family and as soon as I come back from that, I'll be having surgery. After THAT, I'll have my time off from work (I do home daycare) to spend a couple weeks with my husband before he deploys to Africa :( Needless to say, when he gets back 6-8 months later, he will be EXTREMELY surprised, LOL. I'm just really excited and wanted to share :) ::squeeeeeeee!!!!!:::

False alarm!

Nov 28, 2007

My nurse called me monday with some possible great news. She asked if I could be ready for surgery by December 18th, that there had been a cancellation and I could possibly fill that spot. I agreed and she said she was going to talk to Dr. D on tuesday and would let me know for sure if I had that spot. Last night, she called back and said that the spot had been filled but she would speak with Dr. D on the 5th of december. I was a little disappointed but that's ok. I'm glad she called. Anyhoo...it's back to the waiting game. I have all my paperwork, consultations and evaluations. All I need is a date! I am very excited but I'm trying to stay busy and think of other things in the mean time.

Nutritionist and Psychological Evaluation

Nov 19, 2007

I had both today! That was great luck. One less early pick-up for my daycare parents :) They have been so good about coming early when I have a Dr. appointment.
My nutritionist was so nice! She went over everything they talked about at the meeting (see previous post) and gave some good suggestions for supplements and foods. I would definately feel comfortable talking with her again if I have questions in the future. She feels that I'm well prepared for surgery.
My psychologist was very nice also. I took the long computer true/false "test" and he said my answers were great! He also thinks I'm well prepared for surgery and says that he will come visit me after my surgery. Again, I would feel comfortable talking with him if I had a problem.
I think it's important that I feel comfortable with the hospital staff and so far everyone has been nice and reassuring. They have answered my questions and made sure I have all the information I need to be successful. I look forward to my "transformation" and am very pleased so far!

Informational Meeting: Check!

Nov 17, 2007

Thursday, Nov 15, I went to the required informational meeting where they go over the diet and took questions. There were just a few people there but they had lots of questions which is good. I didn't have a whole lot myself but I have been researching for a very long time. Like any huge decision, I wanted to prepare myself with all the information I could find. I listened carefully and took notes. I will see the nutritionist and take my psychological evaluation tomorrow. Fter that, I will be waiting for the call to tell me when my surgery is. Then they will do tests for my heart and lungs. I am really, really excited!

Getting closer!

I have an appointment with a nutritionist and a psychological evaluation both scheduled for November 19th. I'm excited to get everything done of course

General Surgery Consultation

Oct 25, 2007

Dr. Dolan says that I'm a prime candidate. I took with me a list I had made up of all the weight related problems I've had, a list of diets and medication I've tried and a long list of questions. All of these things I printed out (and extra copies to give to him!). He said he had never seen anyone so well prepared! I reasearch anything big very, very thoroughly before I make a decision. I've been researching and thinking of GB for a very, very long time. My mom had GBS seven years ago so I've seen someone go through it firsthand. She's just as picky as I am when it comes to research. I know I can ask her anything. She's my Mom, my friend and if anyone understands everything I'm going through, it's her. I feel really confident and positive about everything.
Dr. Dolan says that he will have me done before my husband is deployed in February. I wasn't sure they could get me in so quickly but I really am thrilled! He will be gone for 6 months so there should be a dramatic difference when he gets back. I'd best not get ahead of myself! I don't expect this to be an easy experience and I know the risks but I am so ready to get this show on the road. I have an appointment with the nutritionist on Monday, November 19. They haven't called to give me an appointment with a psychologist yet. I  CAN"T WAIT! I'm so excited! As if you couldn't tell...
