Mellisa had made it to the other side!!! I just talked with her husband. She is in Surgical ICU as anticipated due to her sleep apnea. She should be in a regular room tomorrow. Steven said she is in some pain, but is starting to get pain meds to control it. He said she came through beautifully. There were no complications at all. All the prayers helped. Thank You to everyone who has kept Melissa in your thoughts and prayers. I plan on calling tomorrow to talk to Melissa at the hospital and will post again after that. Carol

Melissa had surgery this morning at 7:30 am. I called UAB at 11:30 am this morning and Melissa is out of surgery and recovery and is in a room. They did not know if she was in ICU or a regular room. Hospitals are so frustrating sometimes when you are trying to find things out. I am assuming everything went well if she is know in a room. I am trying to reach Melissa's husband Steven by cell phone to get an update on how things went. As soon as I find out I will let you all know. Carol

Melissa Was sorry to hear about your delay. Will be praying for the 22nd. I'm looking forward to your colorful description of your surgery and recovery. You add so much "flavor" to all of our group discussions. May God continue to hold you in His loving hands. Linda B.

Melissa, I am wishing you a successful, complication-free surgery and a smooth, quick recovery. I had my open RNY on 12/10/01 and have absolutely NO regrets other than not having done this several years sooner. It is, without a doubt, the best thing I could have done for myself. God bless you as you begin your healthy new life. By the way, I'm so sorry that you had a delay in having your surgery...I can only imagine how disappointing that must have been. Good luck with your new date going off without a hitch.

MELISSA--I am so sorry about your delay with your surgery. I KNOW how frustrating that must be but rest assured that it will all be worth. Dr. Clements did my surgery on 8/2/01 and I have lost 128 pounds to date and STILL losing on a regular basis. You are by far in the best hands with Dr. Clements--he is the absolute BEST. I love his sense of humor and personality. I saw him just this past Monday (4/15) for a follow-up visit and he was ecstatic with my progress. It is by far the best decision I have ever made for myself and for my family and I would do it all over again today! I wish you much success in your weight loss efforts and I hope your surgery and recovery goes as easily and as smoothly as mine did. As I said, you have the best doctor there is--just do as he says and you will be successful. You will be in my thoughts and prayers! your WLS friend--Diane Harris

Dear Melissa, I'm sorry about the surgery being postponed. At least the outage happened before surgery and not during!!!!Hang in there, it will happen! Best wishes.

Update - Melissa surgery got cancelled yesterday do to a power outage at UAB. She was already in preop and had her IV an epidural already started when the power went out. The hospital went on back up generators. When Dr. Clements came out of surgery with another patient he told her the hospital had cancelled all surgeries for the day. Melissa was very emotional as all of us understand once you have gotten to that point and think it is going to happen within in hours. She and her husband and mother stayed in Birmingham last night since they had already paid for there hotel and plan to make their way home today. Melissa is tentatively scheduled for surgery on Monday, April 22 at 7:30am. Please keep Melissa and her family in your prayers. As soon as I have any more news I will post again. Carol
