Well, today has been a very confusing and frustrating day! Suzie from Dr. Hart's office called this afternoon to tell me that my insurance covered the surgery at 80% after deductibles. WHOO HOO!!!! But she wanted me to confirm it as well. So I had to call myself & again get the bad news that our policy does NOT cover ANY bariatric surgery. And everyone I've spoken to at BCBS of FL has been really snippy.
So I guess it's self-pay or nothing. This sucks!!!!!!!!!!!! $22,000 is not that much to get your health back, I know. But it's still a hard pill to swallow when so many people get it covered.
Hmmmm - maybe a second job, maybe I'll start playing the lottery, maybe I'll write to Bill Gates.....

I filled out the very lengthy and thorough medical history online for Dr. Hart's office today. It took me about 2 hours to get all the information together & I still had to guess at some of the dates & pounds lost/gained for diets. I hope they will have looked at it before I go to my 1st surgical consult on 3/10/08. I hate it when you fill out all that paperwork just to have to repeat it all when you get to a Dr's office. They seem to have it together there, so I'll remain hopeful about that.

Went to my fist informational seminar put on by Dr. Hart's office. Dr. Johnson actually did the presentation and it was quite informative. But most of it I have already learned by reading this site and other sources. I couldn't believe the number of people that asked really basic questions, like they had no idea what they were getting themselves into. I hope that those people get educated or eliminated from the program before they make a mistake. I'm sure Dr. Hart's office takes care of that!

Spoke to BCBS of FL & they deny coverage for any type of bariatric surgery! GRRRRRRRRRR. This is so frustrating because if I was on Medicare it would be covered!!!!! This is so not fair - not that life is ever fair. But here we pay mega-bucks for health insurance & then they don't cover this surgery. But they will spend much, much more on me in drug costs and doctor visits, etc. treating my morbid obesity. This just doesn't make sense to me at all. And God forbid, what if they have to pay for some heart-related event that could have been prevented by paying for WLS.
OK, I'll stop my rant now. :>)
